Water Towers

When traveling the world, you will notice a commonality in most, if not all advanced civilizations: water towers. You can find these towers in cities, countrysides, and suburbia, among other places. You can also find water towers designed in different shapes and styles or painted a certain way to represent the areas in which they reside. No matter where you find
the towers and not matter what they look like, the need and purpose has remained the same: to store and provide fresh water to the towns, cities, and or surrounding areas in which they reside. These water towers help us survive on a daily basis and are often overlooked and under appreciated.

The most basic requirement for human survival is fresh water. While Earth is made up of roughly 72% water, only 1% of that is actually fresh and currently accessible. The rest of the water is either salty ocean water or fresh water that is in snow or ice form.

As a people, we typically use water every day in some form. Most people will wake up and brush their teeth, take a shower, use the rest room and drink multiple glasses of water throughout the day. This does not take into account the fresh water being used to make other drinks and meals or the water needed for the growth and survival of crops and animals. There is so much water on Earth, that a lot of humans tend to take fresh water for granted, assuming we will never run out of it.

Water Towers is an ongoing photographic acknowledgement and appreciation to the structures and locations that assist humans in their daily survival.

Below are some images from this personal project I will continue to work on for the foreseeable future. If you know of any water towers near you, please comment with the city and state!
